Sam Kwok Wing Chun

Martial Arts association rules 2011

This information is designed to give current and potential instructors and overview of what being part of our world renowned association means.

Our aim is to pass on Ip Man Wing Chun as taught by Grandmaster Ip Man. We strive to keep our martial art both traditional and effective. As a representative of our association it is your job to show respect to those around you and follow these simple rules. Failure to do this may result in you being expelled from the Samuel Kwok Wing Chun Martial Arts association.

Instructor rules

1. As an instructor you will not make false or spurious claims about yourself or the association. Telling lies/untruths in person, on the internet or in videos is not acceptable behaviour.

2. As an instructor you must not harm your students or put their health at risk under any circumstances. As an instructor you are in a position of responsibility and this means ensuring your students are warmed up before class, warmed down after class and know the safety implications of the training exercises you give them both during class and what you suggest they practice at home.

3. As an instructor you must help uphold the standard of Ip Man Wing Chun. This means teaching the forms as they have been passed down. It means showing the practical aspect of the system. You should always continue to develop your own skill as well as that of your students.

4. As an instructor you must make an effort to contribute to the association. This means organizing seminars where Sifu Kwok can meet your students. You should also encourage your students to participate in association events like training holidays and seminars with Sifu Kwok at other Sam Kwok martial arts association clubs. Please also contribute to the association newsletter with videos, events or articles you wish to share.

5. You will refer to your instructor (Samuel Kwok) as SiFu and your students should refer to your Instructor as SiGung. How you ask you student to refer to you is your own choice. Adding a surnames is fine eg. “SiGung Kwok”.

6. Understand and adhere to the Traditional Wing Chun Code of Conduct the late Ip Man left behind. The code of conduct can be found here.

7. You may not use the associations name and logo or any variations of it without the permission of the copy write holder Samuel Kwok. If you plan on making your own tee shirts or products you must seek permission for Samuel Kwok. If you are told to stop using the name and logo you must by law.

8. You must seek permission from your Sifu if you wish to train with your SiGung. No one should contact Samuel Kwok's instructors to train with them without consent and permission from Samuel Kwok.
